Expert Hand-Wash & Cleaning

Expert hand-wash will simply maintain the beauty and enhance the longevity of your investment. It also offers an opportunity for our trained staff to inspect your rug for its condition. Damaged and worn spots are not always readily noticeable.

Should we find something, we will bring it to your attention. At Medallion Gallery, rugs are only washed by hand in the traditional way. First, your rug will be shaken off on a conveyor belt to get rid of all micro dusts which have over time been compacted into the piles. Once dust free, then your rug will be placed in a pool of water to get soaked and ready to be washed inch by inch by hand. In this process we use only natural soap with no chemicals. Once washed and inspected, it would be hung from a rack in our temperature controlled dry room for 48 hours. All rugs will be inspected one last time for removal of any stains or if any restoration needed we would then advise.

A gentle touch from our craftsmen can bring your rug back to its original condition, hence prolonging the life of your rug and retaining its value.

Featured
Refringing

We’ll either extend fringes from the foundation of the rug or we’ll replace a worn fringe with one that is secure and long-lasting. You may keep the current fringe style of your rug or select your own fringe from various styles.

Rebinding

Edges are often the first area of a rug to show wear. Depending on the level of deterioration, we can repair a bind or replace one…in such a way that it looks like “it’s always been there.”

Repiling & Reweaving

Are the most rigorous restoration skills performed by our repairmen. The re-piling and re-weaving of a rug can only be trusted to a skilled craftsperson . Here, the goal is to gently restore your rug to maintain its original look while keeping the fullness and richness it once had. Each knot is meticulously formed and re-tied to form a row and then each row will be tightened and carefully built upon the prior row.

Overcasting

This is the careful sewing of the two side edges of a rug to firmly support it end to end and will also prevent unraveling of fringes which is a common problem.
